Frames, Frames, Frames

Here's a little project I have been working on. I got these frames from my mom because she wanted to sell them in our annual garage sale. (gasp!) I know, I thought there must be some creative way to use these 3 frames. They were just begging me to get my hands on them! (wait...that didn't sound so good..) Anyways, they started out like this:

Then, with a couple coats of white paint and some distressing (you know I love to do this to old frames), here you have an architectural work of art. You like?? It has taken up residence in my laundry/craft room on a bare wall. It is the first thing I see when I walk in. And it makes me smile. :0)

  2. I really love the graphic look of these empty frames. I have a whole pile of old frames and this is a great idea to use them :)

  3. I love the distressing you did...can you share how you did it? I have some inexpensive black poster type frames (I'm assuming they are plastic but look kind of like metal) and I want to paint them white but not bright white...any suggestions?

    Thx

  5. Thanks guys!

Care-in, I actually used barn paint (eek!) that we had from painting outside. But any white acrylic or latex paint will work just fine. And to distress them, I simply used a sandpaper block to sand around the edges. Quite messy, but so worth it!

  8. I just helped a friend do a frame, it was that shiny gold, we distressed it silver, it was an easy fun project! You did a great job!

  9. I have always loved the look of empty frames hanging on the wall as art. I have one question. Do you attach the smaller frames to the large one, then hang it? I always wondered how the ones that don't touch the wall were hanging. Anyway, I love it.

  10. Brooke, great question! My husband just used a nail and hammered the small frames to the large one. We had to use a rather long nail since the frames were a little thick. Then we just hung the big frame on the wall with frame hooks. Super easy! Hope that helps!
